Trigger Control at Speed

Updated: 4 days ago

Our first drill is widely used throughout the competitive space as the first step to test whether or not your grip is durable enough to allow you to shoot quickly. You can do this drill live or dry. I'd recommend you start dry.

The objective is to press the trigger as quickly as possible and not disturb your sights. Establish whatever grip you deem proper, aim at your target, finger lightly touching or completely off it, and start your timer. On the buzzer smash that trigger as fast as you can. Try to be finished pressing the trigger before the end of the beep. There should be no movement in your sights. If there was movement, reassess and adjust grip and try again. Rinse and repeat until proficient.

This is a great drill to start with when you are developing your grip. I was initially introduced to this drill from the folks at Practical Shooters Training Group. When you're ready to move on from this, I recommend you try this next "Developing an Index"

I hope this helps. Have a good one.
